Amid changing college landscape Bona, Hilbert weigh alliance

The leaders at Hilbert College and St. Bonaventure University are well aware of the national headwinds regarding small private colleges.
Experts say financial viability depends on a “critical mass,” ideally of at least 3,000 students, the estimated point at which a student body can support the full administration and infrastructure needs of a four-year college with undergraduate and master’s programs.
The problem: St. Bonaventure only has about 2,300 total students and Hilbert only about 1,000, and both serve a region where key demographics such as high school graduates are expected to decline dramatically in the near future. MORE>>

Hilbert men’s basketball falls in AMCC final

Hilbert College made a run in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference tournament, which included two victories and an upset win over rival Medaille in the semifinals.
The Hawks defeated Pitt-Greensburg 90-73 at home in the quarterfinals Tuesday (Feb. 26), to advance for a second straight year to the Conference Final Four. They followed that with the 80-77 victory over two-seed and local rival Medaille three days later, before ultimately falling to the conference No.1 seed Penn State Berhend in the championship game.
