HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Criminal Justice department at Hilbert College continues to support the local community through their membership in the Adopt-a-Highway Program.
The Criminal Justice (CJ) club, led by professor Yvonne Downes, coordinated their efforts September 27th and spread out along South Park Avenue to clean and beautify the stretch of road leading to campus. The Hilbert men’s basketball team, under the direction of Rob deGrandpre, jumped in for the good cause and put their muscles to work.
About 40 students volunteered including 17 Hawks from the team comprised of players, managers and coaches.
The Criminal Justice and Forensic Investigation Association provides an informal setting for students and faculty to discuss ideas, current events and careers in criminal justice and forensic investigation. Students have the opportunity to visit police, correctional and juvenile facilities, as well as participate in community service activities such as the Adopt-a-Highway program or efforts for Renaissance House.
The men’s basketball team coordinates their community service efforts during the year with local volunteer work near campus and they raise hunger-awareness during the winter holiday months while seeking financial support for the Buffalo City Mission.
