HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College men’s basketball team continues to battle an opponent our society has been forced to compete with for far too long.
Fighting the cause for the third year now, “Hawks Against Hunger” is a team project designed to raise money and awareness of the need to take care of the suffering and homeless men, women and children in the Western New York community.
Earlier in the fall semester, a few of the team members participated in the Office of Student Activities Cupcake Wars on November 24th. All cupcakes from the event were decorated by students and then donated to the Buffalo City Mission whom the Hawks’ basketball program has partnered with since 2012.
Community and team financial donations were collected during the latter part of the men’s basketball schedule and on February 4th, the men’s basketball captains presented a $150.00 check to Sue Cervi, Director of Volunteers from the Buffalo City Mission’s Tupper Street location.
Every $1.98 raised provides a warm meal and hope to someone less fortunate; thanks to this recent fundraising effort, 75 warm meals will be provided.
