— Hilbert College’s Commencement speaker Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul mentioned in this listing of local commencement speakers in The Buffalo News.

— Mary Jo Malczewski, a senior in the Legal Studies  program, is one of two scholarship winners for 2015.  The scholarships are sponsored by the Western New York Paralegal Association. She will receive her scholarship at the organization’s annual Attorney-Paralegal Dinner on May 12.  Congratulations Mary Jo!

Firefighter— Hilbert Forensic Science student Steven Papponetti (pictured center) is one of two firefighters named “Firefighter of the Year” – http://www.orleanshub.com/news2015/Albion-FD-has-a-new-leader.htm Congratulations Steven!

— On April 28, The 2015 Rhysling Anthology edited by Rich Ristow was published, reprinting the 99 poems nominated for the Rhysling Award for best speculative poem of the year in two categories, short (<50 lines) and long (50 or more lines).  Hundreds of thousands of poems are eligible for nomination.

This year, four of the nominees (and poems in the anthology) were by Hilbert associate professor of English Herb Kauderer.  His nominated poems in the short category are “After ‘Dark Matter'” and “After ‘Signs You’re in Trouble'”.  In the long category his poems are “Saline to Atlantis” and “Words Not Red”.

In addition, Professor Kauderer had two short poems appear in the webzine Grievous Angel (part of the journal Urban Fantasist) on May 3, 2015.
