Hawks and Titans Partner For Basketball Clinic
HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert women’s basketball team has teamed up with the Buffalo Titans to host a coaches clinic on Saturday, October 10th in the Hafner Recreation Center. Men’s and women’s coaches from six NCAA colleges will be on hand to share their knowledge.
On the women’s side, newly hired Niagara University head coach Jada Pierce will talk about special situation plays and philosophies. Following Coach Pierce, SUNY Geneseo’s Scott Hemer will discuss the packline defense and the basic man-to-man principles that helped his team reach the NCAA Sweet 16 this past season. The final presenter for the women’s coaches is Dave Skolen, who is heading into his 24th season as the head coach of the Daemen Wildcats.
After a short break the men’s coaches will take the stage. Jason Leone, 2014-2015 SUNYAC Coach of the Year at SUNY Oswego, will begin by demonstrating techniques for shooting and skill development. Mark Linebaugh, assistant coach at Hobart College, will review offensive fundamentals and ways to be effective on that end of the floor. Alfred University’s Russell Phillips, who is coming off a 19-8 record in his first season as head coach, will talk about defensive philosophy and how he implements his strategies.
The Buffalo Titans are a local basketball organization founded by former Hilbert assistant coaches Mick Kuberka and Andrew Schrum. Melissa Graham, the newly appointed head coach of the Hilbert women’s team is also a coach in the Titans’ AAU organization. Titans players and members of the Hilbert women’s basketball team will be on hand as demonstrators. Coaches from all age levels are invited to attend the clinic.
