Valentine and Castricone Headline the Hawks Nationally

HAMBURG, N.Y. – It is hard to believe that there are only two weeks left in the Hilbert College men’s and women’s soccer schedule before the 2015 AMCC play-offs begin.   Having said that, the Hawks have played enough games this season to see a clear picture of their individual and team status in the Division III national statistical rankings.

Both the men’s and women’s sophomore goal keepers have had impressive seasons as they both rank in the top 60 in several defensive  categories.   Two men and two women also dot the offensive stats nationally for Hilbert.

Ryan Valentine has carried the men’s soccer team to a 3-8 overall record (2-3 AMCC) and has the Hawks ranked 1st in the league (23rd nationally) with 7.73 Saves Per Game as their starting goalie.  The Troy, NY native leads the conference and is ranked 18th in Division III in Total Saves (84) and 19th nationally in Saves per game (7.64).

Jenna Castricone, appearing in 1,011:35 minutes of action (151st nationally) has taken Hilbert (4-8, 0-5 AMCC) to a 60th ranking in Division III with 8. 83 Saves Per Game.  Individually, the Medina graduate is ranked second in the AMCC (41st in Division III) with 95 Total Saves and 60th, with 7.92, in Saves Per Game.  Of the 200 athletes ranked, Castricone is 178th in Save Percentage (0.792).

Senior Jonathan Davison has found his grove this season, serving as the go-to guy scoring goals, and as a play-maker, setting up teammates.  The Edwards, NY native grabbed a spot in the top 200 ranked Division III players.  His six Total Goals rank him nationally at 176 and number 182 with 0.55 Goals Per Game with both categories positioning him at #7 in the AMCC rankings.

Junior Tyler Eister (St. Francis) is ranked 165th nationally with four assists on the season which is impressive since he has played in only six games as he battles an on-going, lingering injury.

Two juniors on the women’s soccer team have stepped-up their efforts this fall as well. Courtney Vaccaro(Windsor, NY) is ranked 168th in Division III with two Game-Winning Goals this season.   Jackie Morgan(Linwood, NY) runs the offense through the midfield and has earned four assists this season which equates to a 190 national ranking in Division III.

Currently, the men’s soccer team sits in 6th place having earned 6 points with two wins and three defeats in league play.  The Hawks have two games on the road – at Franciscan (1-4) and Medaille (3-0-1) while they close their home schedule on Senior Day against Altoona (2-1-1) and Bradford (0-5) before the top six teams move into post-season play.

The women’s team has a fighting chance to grab a sixth seed with games at Franciscan (1-4) and Medaille (1-3) and home against Altoona (2-2) and on senior day against league-leading Bradford (5-0).
