Hilbert College will join 24 Franciscan Colleges and Universities from across the nation for a Day of Service on Friday, September 23. Hilbert’s first-ever campus-wide Day of Service will include members of Hilbert’s administration, faculty, staff, students, and alumni. The Day of Service will mark the start of Hilbert’s True Blue Weekend, for alumni, students, and families.
The day will be an opportunity for Hilbert volunteers to see and understand the impact and importance of service, as well as take action to promote equality, justice, respect and compassion. It will also allow the everyone at Hilbert to live Hilbert’s mission of serving and strengthening our communities.
Hilbert College is proud to be partnering with five service sites for this year’s event. Below is a listing of each of our Day of Service’s community partners, along with a brief description
Buffalo Peace House is a non-profit organization located in Hamburg. Their mission is to provide safe shelter for asylum seekers and refugees in the Buffalo area.
The Veterans One-Stop Center of WNY, Inc. is a nonprofit corporation offering U.S. Veterans and their families the convenience of a one-stop, barrier-free location in which to access a holistic range of social and health services in the comfort of a “home base” environment that is always welcoming, affirming and responsive to their needs.
The Village of Hamburg Parks and Recreation is an integral part of the Hamburg community and provides opportunities to families to participate in fun and engaging activities while realizing elements of socialization and health and wellness benefits.
Since 1930, the St. Vincent de Paul Society has been answering the need of the poor by providing warm meals, clothing and household items. Today the Society serves over 100,000 meals a year and provides clothing and household items to those in need at little or no cost.
